I spent the New Years Eve at a circus, meaning: a big family party. When grandmother, who is old and sick, saw the fireworks, she thought that she was at some Brazilian dance festival; she stripped down to underwear and shoes and went out in the snow running around and dancing. We had to chase her through the whole village. It was the biggest happening in Össjö city since Bertil Fredriksson manage to breed a goat with 2 heads back in the 80’s.
I don’t know about you people, but I didn’t open my champagne. I saved it. I saved it course I’m waiting for the real party – when then first GEM is released. And I hear it will be soon. Stay tuned.
This fancy postcard comes from Omicron - Delta on the Caliban planet. Image by mayor Elsedai.
Beautiful road networks, handmade parks and awesome screenshots makes me warm inside, like when you swallow a hot cheese sandwich. If you have the same fetish as I do, then take a look at those fancy screenshots posted by Mayor Elsedai in his journal at Cities XL. Be sure to look in his archive too.
If you’d like to visit his city Omicron – Delta in the game, then head straight to the Caliban server. His city is there.
It sometimes happens when you trade online, that you are no longer able to sell anything course you don’t have enough of cash tokens.
Its a known bug and Monte Cristo is working on a fix. But until its fixed there is a manual workaround (no, no need to sacrifice a goat on this one).
When this bug appears you probably have negative cash flow and some of your deals where you buy resources from others has been cancelled automatically, but not all of them. You need to find that deal or deals and cancel them on your own. There going be some swearing on the chat, but after that, you will be able to sell your stuff again.
Earlier we’ve published a simple version of a Production cost Calculator, but Mayor Dankicity is taking the whole project to an cosmical level.
His calculator is very detailed, good looking and just pure awesome as a tool that every online player should get to calculate the production costs of each token.
Note: To be able to use the Calculator you need Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010, or the the free program called OpenOffice.org.
Dankicity’s Resource Calculator takes into consideration the cost of “raw materials” to produce a token, but also the production efficiency, pollution, bonus‘ from special buildings and other details needed to calculate the true cost.
The things that you must edit in the calculator is the amounts of tokens that your city produces, and to find out how much your city produces you will have to use the Resource-/Token-Count Dialog Mod.
Also, due to a reference loop the base cost of water needs to be updated with the price of electricity, and offices need the same for high-tech prices. If you would like to get a detailed cost with the calculator, you will also have to edit taxes and variation of income and such.
Dankit would like to see some feedback on his calculator, and you can leave a comment either right here or visit the forum thread where it all started.
Fancy prizes when Monte Cristo organizes a photo competition.
Oh. My. God. When Monte Cristo informed me this Monday about their plans to launch a competition for the new year with great prizes, I thought that they will be handing out Eiffel tower wall posters.
But hell no, they are giving out stuff from their fancy partners, and they are not cheap like that Santa that did sent me Christmas gifts this year. The prizes in the competition are:
1 custom build notebook from Alienware worth €2,500,
And all you have to do is send in your best real life photos in two categories; 1) your most fancy picture you’ve ever taken and 2) one of your best Christmas pictures.
To take part in the competition, visit this page where you find the rules and where you will be able to upload you photos.
The last day to take part in the competition is on January 17 so its enough of time to learn few tricks how to take better pictures with your camera.
Hello dear readers. Its been an awesome start for this fanpage; looking at the stats, there is no doubt that you guys love to read this crazy Scandinavian newsblog. And I am happy.
The numbers speaks for them selves, while the newsblog is well visited, the forums are not. I get it, you prefer to read rather than write. But maybe some of you out there would like to be a guest writer, or being interviewed?
If you have a guide, tips, hints, great screen shots or just an awesome story to tell about your city, or just wants to say few words about the game or what you would see in the game, don’t hesitate to email me, and we’ll organize so you can share your stuff with lots of Cities XL players and the Monte Cristo team (oh yeah, they are lurking here too).
Language based sub-forums
Traditional party shoes for Dutch babes.
I’ve opened up some language based sub-forums and I’m looking for people that can be community managers, moderating the forum and helping out the visitors with questions. If you are interested, write to me and I will make a Viking out of you in no time.
You Dutch
Right now, the Dutch sub-forum has two skilled players that will take care of that particular forum. You Dutch can go crazy in there, organize, help out the younger player base, or just talk about tulips or exchange info on your famous clogs (wooden shoes). Looking at the statistics, you are around 150 people visiting this fansite. You guys can have fun in there, hell, I’d even suggest that some of you start your own fanpage.
During the 28th of December, Monte Cristo, the company behind Cities XL, expanded the amounts of servers during the day by adding one more servers to each regional department. In total, 40′000 unpopulated maps has been added to the Planet Offer.
Cities XL has been sold extremely well during the first month of release and it managed to climb to the top10 sales charts on the UK, French and German market. And in most of the online shops, like Amazon.com, the boxed game has been sold out.
If you haven’t got one copy already, visit your grandmother or the Steam Shop (only 24€ for Limited Edition) to get some piece of the action. Although, we wouldn’t recommend to pay for the Planet Offer at the moment due some weird underground price whooping by Monte Cristo, unless you just want to try the online play out for a month.
This isnt a screenshot from the game. Its an actual image of a real life city, Sun City in Arizona, USA. Pic by Google Maps.
Circles, rings and roundabouts that looks like a molested silicon boob is a common sight in many cities, including mine. But there are guides that can help you through this horror to that extent that even the mayor of Sun City in Arizona, USA, would be impressed.
If you are looking for a guide where you want to start out with a large circle and work your way in, visit this thread at CitiesXS. Its in German, but its enough to just look at the pictures to understand the surgical procedure. This guide will also show you what you should try to avoid to do.
If you would like to start with a small circle and work your way out to create a bigger ring, then cast both of your eyes to this guide at Simtropolis.
And remember, rings are sexy as long as they are not under your eyes. Get some fresh air from time to time, yes?
Producer Chiverito has released his 3rd episode of his video log series and in this season finale he covers the amazing bus add-on (that’s only available online). Cherevito and his series will be back in January.
Buses for Cities XL where released in early December this year and if you are looking for some hints and tips on how buses are working, then take a look at this fancy forum thread.
No brain eating aliens, just old fasion human city art and amazing road networks everywhere Bothan goes. Pics by Mayor Bothan.
In 1873, the French writer Jules Verne wrote a book called Around the World in Eighty Days, where two lads attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days.
Today, Verne’s fellow countryman, Mayor Bowthan, is trying something similar, yet far more greater: circumnavigate the whole Cities XL universe by visiting 80 different cities.
His trip has already started and 12 cities from different planets has been already logged in his journal with amazing pictures of thing he finds beautiful and interesting.
Be part of Bowthan’s fancy interstellar space travels by visiting the first, the second and the third journal entry.
Mayor Toothpaste is Viking Chief here.
